As most of you know we received a placement in our home, because of the confidentiality rule Tom and I can not share most things about the child with the public for safety reasons. So with that being said there is little we can share about the child's past life. I would like to share our story starting the day we picked up our little guy. As most of you I quit my job with the City of Mesa, my last day was the 18th of July. Tom has been out of town that whole week doing some training in CA and he was coming home that night. I told our agency that we will start taking phone calls that night for immediate placement. Oh to back up a little, we finally got approved by the state on the 8th of July for two children in our home, we were set up for three but the state said because we are first time parents that we could only handle two. We were a little upset about that, first of all from day one we told our agency that we will take three kids and they said because we would take three in our home you need to provide three beds, so what did we do we went out and purchase three beds. And not that money is a factor and not that the beds wont be used but I'm not a huge fan of wasting money if someone says in order to be approved for three you need to have three beds available well I did what you said, but I guess that doesn't matter. The other thing that made me upset about getting approved for two children is, I don't care if I'm a brand new parent, you don't know me and you don't know what I can handle. Brand new parents have triplets everyday I don't see you taking one of their children away because brand new parents can only handle two kids at one time. At that time we were upset about that email but we have gotten over it as you can tell. In the end we have to believe there is a purpose in all things, there is no point being angry about something you can't change.
Back to the 18th the of July, I was an anxious person, I was by my phone all night! I didn't sleep at all because I wanted to be ready for when that phone call. Friday came and still we did not receive a phone call, I was pretty sad, I have been wanting this for awhile now and all I can say patience was NOT in my character at this time. Friday came and gone, that night I went to sleep pretty depress, thinking we will never get a child in our home. I stayed up pretty late that night of course with my phone close by and I finally fell asleep, and because I wasn't sleeping that well, I slept in pretty late that morning of the 20th of July and I was waken up by my phone at 9:30am, I jumped up out of bed and it was the phone call I have been waiting for! I ran down stairs to let Tom know it was our agency, telling us that a little boy needs a home. They said we have to wait for CPS to call us now to say when and where we can pick up the child. About 15min later we got a phone call from CPS saying come pick up the child of course in a nicer way. Tom and I drove to down town Phoenix to the CPS office and we waited down stairs for them to bring the little guy to us. Tom and I were both like we are really doing this, this is what we have been waiting for there is no turning back now. We had all these feelings going through us waiting to the CPS worker to bring us the child.
Finally the CPS worker came down stairs, and she had this beautiful little boy in her arms, he had been sleeping all morning and she had woken him up to bring him down stairs. She walked us to the car with him in her arms and when it was time to pass him on he went right in my arms. I was in love! I put him in his car seat, and we were on our way home. He was a happy little guy, he was looking at us "who are these people and why do they keep on smiling at me." We went to Walmart first to stop off and purchase a some items such as clothing and diapers and food for the little guy. When a child is placed in your home they come with NOTHING only the clothes they are wearing on their back. We are given no information about the child such as what is he allergic too and other information that would probably be helpful when taking a child in your home. To share a funny story that happen at Walmart, as we were walking around in the cart with him, he points to the older gentleman who was at the photo kiosk and says DADA!!!! Tom and I looked at each other like what the crap! This is going to be really awkward, but don't worry this guy wasn't his Dada. We finally get to our home and he quickly runs in our home and starts looking everywhere and getting into everything exploring his boundaries. And he has been NON stop ever sense.
As of today it has been two weeks with our little guy. We don't know when he will be going back home to his real Mom, it could be anytime it could be next week it could be in a month, we don't know. All we know it was been a blessing and a joy to have him in our home. Would we love to adopt him, in a heart beat we would but it is probably not in the cards. It will be a hard day when he leaves our home but we both know there is a child that is meant to be in our home permanently, for now we just have to wait and enjoy every moment we get with each child that comes in our home and give and show them the love and kindness they deserve.
