Adoption udate and other fun things

A lot of new changes have been going on in our household within the last month, of course all of them have to do with getting our house ready for the kids, which is a good thing. (Sorry if this post is super long) It make us laugh at all the little things we have to do to prep for our future children, some are good and some well, let's be honest, some are just plain silly. We are all about safety in our home and we would never want our kids to be in harm but some are just going to the extreme. I wont say which ones we think are silly or the ones we agree with you can decide on your own.  But we have to have a fire extinguisher and not just any fire extinguisher it has to be 2-A 10BC which is the most expensive one, and not just one but two of the because we have a 2 story. Another item we have to have in the house is a Carbon Monoxide alarm, other things are locks on all our guns and they have to be locked up in a cabinet and the bullets have to be locked up separate in their own container. We have to have all our cleaning supplies and medicine locked up, we have to have a three feet buffer around the water heater, everything has to be three feet away. There has to be a smoke alarm  in every room in the house, it was a good thing our house is a newer house because it has a smoke alarm and sprinkler heads all around the house. So not a ton of stuff but it is stuff you really don't think about everyday.

Did we tell you that Tom and I have our own autobiography now, we will let you know when you can pick up your own copy..... So this last week has been a little well I will just say that it was a little stressful. We had paperwork upon paperwork to fill out. I have never in my life written so much in a short period time let alone on my self. Both of us work full time and then some and during that time we had to find time to fill out all our paperwork and it wasn't like yes or no questions, they were question about your feelings, what you think, and other psychology questions. We felt like we were seeing an imaginary shrink which was on paper and they wanted to know how messed up we are. We had about 5 packets of 15 to 20 questions each to fill out and it was all the same questions asked in a different way and they want it detailed. Some examples of the question, I'm pretty sure this question they are wanting people to start fights "What are some things you would change and what are something your spouse would change about you?" Don't worry I gave my list of things I would change about Tom but of course there would be nothing Tom would want to change about me.... ;) Other questions were do you like being married? How do you react to stressful situation? What do you do when you are angry? (I wrote down I turn into the hulk j/k) What were your happiest childhood memories? What were your worst childhood memories? Those are just a few, but after we filled out all those packets we had to write a paper on our life in a very detailed way from where we grew up, your childhood, siblings, schools, jobs, how your parents disciplined you, how you and your spouse met and how you got married on EVERYTHING in detail. That took some time. On Friday we had our specialist come over to the house, just wait for it this was the part Tom and I started busting up (not while she was there of course) we gave her all our paper work and she looks at us and says I can't believe you guys have this all done! (to back up a little she told us we had to have this all done by Friday when she came out so in one week) But we are happy it is all done and out of our hair now.
Some interesting things came out during our visit that we need to get done, we have to have our kids room furnished, and have car seats available. Well this causes a problem because we don't know what age group or the sex we are going to get, we put down 0-5 on the possibility of child we would adopt. So it kind of causes some concern, it isn't a lack of money to go out and purchase those items it just would seem like a waste to purchase a infant car seat when I have a 3 year old or vise versa. So it looks like we will be on craigslist and garage sale hunting and Tom LOVES to shop. (He doesn't)
After the lady left, I will be honest I was a little scared, not doubts but concerns. If anybody knows the system, it is a pretty jacked up system and the kids that come into the system they haven't had the most "normal" childhood. I see why everyone adopts infants and only infants, you are less likely to have a child that has been "hurt". But we know we have each other to lean on and other family members and more important God in our life to give us the strength to raise a family.
I love children books and I want our kids to love books, I bought 25 books for $2!

Don't worry we are still having fun

PS. Sorry for the long post
